Long-term Monitoring of Hydrogeochemical Fluxes in the Basins of the Largest Rivers of the Russian Federation

Objective – to develop a network of hydrological and geochemical monitoring stations on the largest rivers of the Russian Federation. The development of this network will provide a basis for assessing contemporary riverine fluxes and the transport pathways of trace elements, nutrients and organic matter to receiving seas, as well as their transformation within river basins and the intensity of biogeochemical processes under different natural conditions.

Uniqueness – the monitoring programme is distinguished by the frequency of sampling (once a week) and the comprehensive range of measurements, encompassing both fundamental hydrological and hydrochemical parameters and specialised indicators, including dissolved and particulate forms of trace elements, various nutrient compounds, and different forms of organic carbon transported by river flow.
